This beautiful, late harvest, botrysized Chenin Blanc calls to mind the
great wines of Sauternes. Its distinctive character and complexity
is derived from the benevolent form of the mold, botrytis cinerea.
Vineyards in the Temecula Valley are rarely subject to the particular
weather conditions which result in the proper form of "infection".
Misty evenings, foggy mornings and warm, dry afternoons are needed
for the mold, known as Noble Rot in France, to work its magic. The
ideal conditions for the formation of botrytis have occurred only four
times since the Callaway Vineyard & Winery was founded in 1969.
Intoxicating aromas of sweet honeysuckle and jasmine on the nose, followed
by the incredibly rich and decadent flavors of soft, ripe pear, kiwi
and clover honey. How sweet it is! Serve lightly chilled. his wine is
full of sumptuous floral and pineapple aromas with just a touch of spice.
Light citrus flavors are layered with hints of honeydew melon, apple
and ripe peach, leading to a crisp, yet delicately rich finale.

2004 Winemaker's Reserve A.K.A. (Also Known As Port)
 |
Silver - New World International Wine Competition
Bronze - Grand Harvest Awards |
Unlike most 10 year old tawny ports, ours has retained a deep burgundy hue with just a bit of caramel color when swirled. Lush chocolate, cinnamon and spice aromas drift upwards from the glass, accentuating its pronounced ‘nutty’ aroma. Extended barrel aging, which allows the fruit flavors to mellow and mature, gives way to the soft, rich flavors of fat, juicy raisins, figs and dark caramel along with just a hint of chocolate covered cherries. Thick, rich and sweet, Port is commonly savored as a dessert wine. It is ready to drink now, and unlike table wine, an open bottle of Tawny Port will last for months!

3% Zinfandel, 3% Cabernet Franc
