San Diego Tasting Room Manager
The mission of the Tasting Room Manager at Callaway Vineyard & Winery’s San Diego location is to create a first-class tasting room experience by providing exceptional leadership, organizational, retail, sales and customer service skills. The manager must be able to lead by example, utilizing a hands-on approach.
The manager must be wine knowledgeable, computer literate, have a passion for entertaining and be able to lift at least 50 lbs.
Summary of Essential Functions (other duties may be assigned):
Tasting Room Sales Associate Staffing & Training
  • Direct and supervise all tasting room employees.
  • Direct and conduct the hiring process for tasting room candidates.
  • Train and monitor all tasting room staff.
  • Set weekly staffing schedules.
  • Manage and maintain proper staffing for tasting room.
  • Assign daily operational and merchandising tasks for tasting room associates.
  • Schedule and conduct ongoing wine and merchandise training.
  • Audit and approve employee’s time cards to ensure complete and accurate information for payroll processing.
  • Complete and conduct tasting room staff performance reviews with feedback and specific performance objectives.
  • Develop and maintain a consistent, reliable means of monitoring tasting room performance through establishing and implementing strategies to achieve monthly sales and wine club goals.
  • Ensure each associate actively engages all guests.
  • Ensure the tasting room staff is knowledgeable about all Callaway Vineyards & Winery products.
Managerial Duties
  • Oversee monthly inventories of wine & non-wine products and ongoing merchandise and wine ordering.
  • Purchasing of non-wine products and vendor relations.
  • Oversee daily opening and closing register procedures.
  • Keep accurate record of all transactions and audits point-of-sale procedures.
  • Inform team members of upcoming events.
  • Lead team through change, by overcoming objections and removing selling obstacles.
  • Personally engage in selling and have direct interaction with visitors at point-of-sale.
  • 3-5 years experience in management, hospitality and retail sales required.
  • Cash Register POS and advanced computer knowledge required (email, Word, Excel, database management, etc.)
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to connect with people, engage in ongoing conversation, eliminate sources of customer friction, and resolve issues expediently.
  • Must have analytic ability for reporting and strong attention to detail.
  • Maintain a professional appearance, be a team player and maintain a positive disposition.
  • Strong multi-tasking abilities.
  • Must be 21 years or older, able to work weekends, holidays and evenings.

Position Summary:                                                                                                                                                             
In order to provide the best visitor experience possible servers must be happy, friendly, knowledgeable, and enjoy working with people.  This position requires patience and professionalism at all times and a willingness to be flexible in a busy work environment.
Tasting Room Servers are responsible for all aspects of welcoming, entertaining and serving guests during their visit to the tasting room.  This includes conducting wine tastings, providing product information, promoting sales, assisting guests with purchases and resolving any product or service problems. Servers must be able to convey information accurately, pay attention to details, have good listening and communication skills and work well with others. 
This position also requires standing for long periods of time, lifting and daily maintenance of the tasting bar which includes cleaning, stocking, washing glassware, organizing supplies and keeping track of wine inventory. 
·       Two years experience in hospitality or customer service related fields, retail sales, cashiering and knowledge of the wine industry preferred.  
·       Must possess a high level of integrity and be able to execute cashiering, cash and inventory handling in an honest manner.
·       Must be respectful of customers and coworkers and be able to communicate calmly and clearly in a professional manner.  Must be able to explain products, services and special offers accurately.      
·       Must be dedicated to the job: able to follow instructions and all company policies, be timely and reliable, motivated and productive, self sufficient and organized.
·       Wine knowledge is not required but a genuine interest and desire to learn about wine and the wine industry at work and on your own.  
·       Must be able to work under pressure, multi-task, meet sales expectations and maintain a positive attitude.     
·       Must be able to lift up to 50lbs and stand for long periods of time.
Work Schedule:                                                                                                                                                           
Part-time position, weekends and holidays required with additional hours as needed by the winery and or tasting room on weekdays or evenings.  Must be 21 years or older.  Hourly rate, plus incentives.
