2015 Special Selection Mourvedre

Mourvedre has found a happy home in the Callaway Estate vineyards where it enjoys our plentiful sunshine. This very drinkable vintage offers up lots of red fruits like strawberry, cherry and currant along with a dusting of pink peppercorns. Powdery tannins lend structure and depth, and blend seamlessly with darker berry notes, dark chocolate and nutmeg on the finish.

Interesting Facts: Mourvedre is generally a late ripening varietal, it was harvested September 3rd at 23.7 Brix. The free run was separated from the hard press wine and racked into separate lots. The hard press wine was racked into neutral French oak barrels. Mourvedre needs extensive time in barrel, minimum of 14-16 months in oak, to show its true potential.

Alcohol 14.1%
Aging: 100% barrel aged for 22 months total. 11 months in brand new Foudre & 11 months in 60 gallon French oak barrels (10% new, 90% neutral oak - 4 & 5 year old barrels).
